The Artist
İlknur Gürcan
From Engineering to Painting
I was born in Isparta in 1972. After Ankara Science High School and a degree in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University, I worked for many years as an engineer at ASELSAN and at TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM.
The passion for painting I had pursued on my own since childhood gradually took shape under the guidance of the artists Mehmet Yılmaz, Nusret Dökmeci and Oktay Bingöl.
In 2011 I founded the Sardunya Painting Studio, which became both a home for my own work and a space where painting courses are held.
My Painting
I paint the daily life of the contemporary city dweller. My canvases focus on cafés, streets and the human figure.
To carry fleeting light, the feeling of a moment and the quiet poetry of the street onto canvas... This is the impulse behind every one of my works.
